Once you have received the new premium, you can switch as of 31 December. The cancellation must reach the health insurer by the last working day of November.

When must the cancellation reach the health insurer?
KVG with CHF 300 deductible, standard model
by 31 March
A switch as of 30 June is also possible, with three months’ notice. This usually does not apply to family doctor, HMO or telemedicine models.
Supplementary insurance (VVG)
according to the GTC
Your insurance terms and conditions apply – often three months before the end of the year, i.e. by 30 September. In the event of a premium increase, an extraordinary right of cancellation usually applies.
Only cancel supplementary insurance after acceptanceSupplementary insurance involves a health check and the new insurer may refuse you. Only cancel once the new policy has been confirmed in writing.
You are never without basic insuranceYour existing basic insurance only ends once the new health insurer has confirmed your admission. So take out the new insurance in good time.
Unpaid premiums prevent a switchIf premiums or cost-sharing have been reminded and are still unpaid, you cannot switch basic insurance. Settle any arrears before the deadline.
Send by registered mail – receipt is what countsWhat matters is not the postmark but the date the insurer receives the letter. Send the cancellation by registered mail at least 7 to 10 days before the deadline.
